Hey guys, welcome back to my blog!! I hope everyone is doing well and that everyone has had a good week. If I’m going to be honest the past week has been super hectic for me. I managed to go to a party on Friday which was actually really fun. I usually always stress out about going to social events seeing as I’m not a very social person but family parties and stuff like that always ends up being so much more fun that I expect. Recently my mind has just been all over the place, I have barely been able to concentrate in school nor have I been sleeping well but it’s ok, I’m just taking life one day at a time and I mean I’m surviving so I guess it’s something. It was also my birthday on Tuesday. I’ve never been a huge birthday celebrating person because all the attention and stuff is a bit eek but I did go out for lunch with some of my favourite people ever and I got this really cool oracle book and the most beautiful copy of Pride and Prejudice which nearly made me cry. Oh gosh this is the longest intro I’ve ever written so I’m going to get straight into it now!!
What is Religion and Why do People Believe in it?
( Just wanted to get this out the way before you read the actual post, I am not here to tell you that you should only follow a certain belief. I don’t have any hatred towards any religion or anything so if it ever comes across that way I’m sorry in advance :(( )
I feel like this is a really personal question and obviously not something I could answer on behalf of the entirety of humanity but despite it being different for everyone, essentially the end purpose is believing in a higher power which brings some sort of comfort to you. It kind of reminds you that you don’t have the bear the weight of the world on your shoulders and I guess having faith in something can also make getting through harder times feel much easier, as though you aren’t alone.
I also believe that each religion has the same core values and they are basically showing morality, compassion and uniting with God at the end of your life. I think that another major reason why people believe in religions is because you have the belief that after you die, it isn’t REALLY the end. You could get reincarnated or you could go to Heaven or maybe even Hell.
I follow Hinduism and I guess it’s not really called a religion in India. It is considered as a way of life. In India, there are many people who follow many different religions but they all have certain aspects of Hinduism within them. I mean, culture also plays a major role in influencing the way of life.
I feel like there is a major difference between Eastern and Western religions. For example, Eastern religions are more focused on liberating yourself from the cycle of karma and uniting yourself with God whereas Western religions are more focused on day to day activities which can take you to either Heaven or Hell and less on the ideals of reaching some sort of “spiritual enlightenment.” Obviously they are both good to follow depending on what you believe your purpose in life is.
Why do Different Religions Exist?
I mean surely if all these religions have the same core beliefs which essentially ends with uniting with God, then why couldn’t everyone follow the same religion?
The oldest religion in the world that is currently practised today is Hinduism. If everyone just wants to end up with God then why doesn’t everyone just practise Hinduism?
The only reason (in my opinion) as to why other religions are made is just because not everyone agrees with the same journey. Everyone wants to take different paths in life and furthermore, there are so many different kinds of people in the world that even if everyone practised the same religion in a different way, it still wouldn’t be personal enough.
I guess this is where you can put in the cheesy quote of “it isn’t about the destination, it’s about the journey” except a lot of people obviously care about whether they have good karma or are going to o Heaven or not.
Could Society Thrive Without Religion?
I know many people will disagree with me on this but I actually think religion is a key tool in society nowadays. Yes, it does cause conflicts but if religion wasn’t the cause of it, I think that there would still be lots of conflict because we as humans would probably just find something else to disagree on, it’s in our nature.
I think that religion is important for society as a society needs a variety of people and a variety of religions allows that. If everyone had the same beliefs in everything about life then what would be the point in asking these kinds of questions? I know that not everyone causally sits on a Tuesday morning and discusses the purpose of life but I feel like if there wasn’t religion then we wouldn’t have as many answers as we do right now.
I mean we technically don’t really know anything in life because everything is a theory and we just follow what other people have taught us but believing in religion can give us a sense of security when it comes to asking the bigger questions in life like why humans exist.
I am not saying that every single person needs to follow a religion in order for society to thrive because as I mentioned before, society is made up of a lot of different people and that also includes people who don’t believe in a God or a religion.
If we didn’t have religion and everyone just had the same beliefs then essentially, the world would never have any sort of conflict or problems but this could also not allow us as people to understand what is good in life because we don’t see any bad. The world would also just be really boring, like if I can’t have an intense debate with my friends about the differences in life then what’s the point? If everyone had the same beliefs then it would lead to every single person living the same life and even the idea of it makes me yawn (definitely not yawning because it’s past 12 and I slept for 4 hours hahaha).
I think I am going to end it there because otherwise I might just get in too deep and not sleep at all. I hope you enjoyed this week’s post!! I’ll see you next week, love you guys <33
