Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog!! I know this week's title is a bit of a mouthful but that's kind of how I've been feeling lately. Our holiday to Mallorca got cancelled because of all the omicron business which caused more travel restrictions. We are in Paris instead and I could not be more grateful. The Christmas lights and decorations are so beautiful. We are staying in a small town near the outskirts of Paris so I guess it's not ACTUAL Paris but we travel to France and Paris so often that I could probably navigate my way around Paris town as well as I know London town.
Even though we are on holiday, I can't stop stressing about school work. I have two tests the first week we get back and I know I am allowed to take a break but I feel like I always have something to be doing at all times and it almost feels weird to not be doing anything. As every 17 year old girl, instead of doing work, I am crocheting. I have managed to finish an entire dress I have been procrastinating to do for about 6 months in around 4 hours. I have been trying very hard to relax but honestly, nothing seems to be appealing to me. When I work, I feel drained but when I take a break, I feel stressed about not working. I guess you can never win. I find that usually when I feel like this, it's because I am not grounded. Being a highly sensitive person and an empath means that even walking into a busy shopping mall where everyone is trying to buy Christmas gifts leaves me feeling really drained. I also gather many people's energies which just makes me tired all the time. Grounding helps me, along with many others, to avoid problems like this. I know that people usually diagnosed with anxiety disorders are often told that grounding can help them and while I don't have any sort of disorder, I do easily get overwhelmed by people and places with strong energies or emotions. That's why I've been displacing all my feelings into crocheting. It sounds weird but trust me, it helps, ish. This is also why I love school time because school means sports squads and dance which is something I don't have during the holidays. Ok, I think I've rambled enough about my pitiful life with grandma hobbies, time to get to the grounding.
Grounding
What Is Grounding?
Psychologically, grounding is a coping strategy to immediately connect with you in the present and as mentioned before, it is used a lot for anxiety and also PTSD.
Spiritually, grounding is pretty much the same. It is balancing the spiritual and physical energy within your body by connecting yourself to the earth. It gives your energy a point of steadiness and you feel clear, centered and focused.
Signs of Being Ungrounded
- you get distracted easily
- you're really spaced out
- you overthink a lot
- you feel anxious (or more than usual if you have an anxiety disorder)
- you are obsessed with your personal image
- easily deceived by others
- you have a constant desire for material things
Of course there are many more signs, these are just a few of the common ones.
Grounding Techniques
The first technique is feeling your feet. This sounds weird but simply just paying attention to your feet and where they are, whether you're sitting or standing, it allows you to feel present in the moment and it helps you recognise your surroundings.
The second technique is a grounding meditation. This is probably my favourite way to ground myself. I find that sitting incredibly still allows me to connect with the world. You can find many guided meditations on youtube to follow. Furthermore, meditating allows you to open up your crown chakra which gives you a feeling of oneness with the universe. The crown chakra is also the meeting point between your physical body and the spiritual realm and meditating for your crown chakra allows you to reach your higher self.
Another way to ground yourself is focusing on your breath. Closing your eyes and feeling the motions of inhaling and exhaling can instantly help someone calm down and feel connected to the moment and to yourself.
The last method I can think of is earthing. This is also another one of my favourite methods. There is a lot of science behind this, something to do with electrons and stuff but I don't think many people will appreciate me going into that on here, you can find out more of the benefits related to science and psychology
here. Earthing basically consists of connecting your body with the literal earth. An example of this would be walking barefoot on the grass. Ayurvedic philosophy which is an ancient Indian medicinal system and the world's oldest holistic medicine system. In Ayurveda, they believe that we as humans are made up of the five elements, space, fire, water, air and earth. Earthing allows you to (obviously) connect with the earth element within you. It is shown to reduce inflammation and stress and improve sleep. If you want to find out more about the Ayurvedic history of earthing, you can find out more

I hope you enjoyed this week's post and I hope I was able to help out a few people who find holidays a slightly rougher period. Merry Christmas Eve Eve and see you next week, love you guys <33
