Travel Diaries
Hey guys, welcome back to my blog!! I hope everyone is doing well. Today's post is a very colloquial post just about what I've been getting up to recently. I was in Boston for a few weeks and then we went down to Washington DC for a few days. We are currently in the concrete jungle where dreams are made of (New York if you didn't guess) and honestly, life is just lush. I don't even want to think about going back to London and dealing with never ending school, exams and stress.
Boston
I really really loved Boston. We met some of my cousin's friends and they were really lovely. It makes me super excited for university and oddly, it also makes me excited for meeting new people. As most of you know, I am quite introverted and meeting new people is an incredibly awkward experience but I feel like university friends are more like family seeing as you practically live with them.
Downtown Boston really reminded me of Canary Wharf, it was breathtaking and I cannot wait to go back soon. We mainly just walked around and took in the surroundings because we were all extremely drained after helping out with my cousin's dance graduation which I spoke about in previous posts.
The city was lovely, the people were lovely and the vibes were lovely. Overall, it's a lovely city. We also went to Cambridge and looked around Harvard and MIT. The area was beautiful and the skyline at night was OUT OF THIS WORLD. It has definitely inspired me to apply to Harvard for post graduate, whether I get in or not is another story but I just cannot pass up on the opportunity.
Washington DC
I love museums and that's why I loved DC. It was full of museums and I think we went to at least 5. The weather was really hot when we were there which was good because it was a lot of walking. The last day was quite rainy and the evening before there was some random showers but it somehow added to the aesthetic. My feet ached nearly every night when we got back to the hotel every night but it was worth it. The hotel we stayed in was really nice as well which obviously added to how fun the trip was. One thing that made me a bit annoyed was that we had to prebook some of the museums which wasn't the case in previous years so I wish we looked into that a bit. Downtown DC was probably one of the best places I have been to in this trip because we were there during the evening. There were lights, restaurants, fancy cars and the views from the pier were out of this world. We also got bubble tea, I got this limited edition cherry blossom drink because of the cherry blossom festival. The festival was an absolute disappointment by the way, there were literally no blossoms and it was quite sad. The botanical garden did make up for it though.
New York
We leave from here tomorrow which is really sad but I think I have a good judgement on it. Firstly, we are staying in this really nice hotel in Times Square and the views from our room are CRAZY. It is a classic New York view and I'm so glad we have it. When we first got here I really didn't like it that much, it's very dirty and despite the buildings being pretty, I just didn't find anything that special about it. However, at night when I saw Times Square at night with all the lights, music and livelihood, my mind changed. It is one of the most happening places ever and you can trust me because we travel a lot. We saw street performances of hot men doing tricks and making jokes which is always a good thing. Some parts of New York also reminded me of London so some parts did feel quite familiar but I guess most cities tend to look the same after some time. We went to the Brooklyn Bridge (yes, the one spiderman was on) and we saw all of the New York skyline which was again OUT OF THIS WORLD. I feel like New York is a really lovely place at some times but I can't see myself living here. It would be nice to come here for study abroad or maybe like travelling but personally, I just didn't really click with it.
Despite saying that, today in Time Square at night I was just sitting on these steps looking around me and realising that even though there are so many people, so much noise and lots of bright lights, I still feel oddly calm and at home which was very strange. I think I've been slowly falling in love with New York.
I know this is much shorter than normal and maybe not as 'philosophical' or whatever but honestly I've been so tired lately. I've been trying to revise alongside travelling and writing essays for essay competitions which has been very hectic. It is currently 12:30am in New York and I'm still up writing this after a VERY long day so I hope you can appreciate that a bit. Throughout this entire trip, I've realised that as much as I love nature and calmness, I will always be a city girl. I just love the chaos and the noise and just everything. I feel like sometimes I'm so calm within myself that I need the crazy city around me otherwise I think I'd end up as a jam maker in the countryside living with five cats in a small cottage completely disconnected from everything and everyone. You can really see the tiredness is getting to me because I think I'm typing absolute rubbish, anyways, goodnight and I love you guys <33
