Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog!! I have really been procrastinating with doing school work which has resulted in me only having revised 'algebraic expressions' which is basically the easiest topic in maths that I didn't even need to revise so that was kind of a waste of time. Trying to write my personal statement for university has also been driving me up a wall because every time I write a draft, I convince myself it's awful and then redo it. Anyways, aside from all the school related problems in my life that have somehow started before school started, I also did something really exciting a few days ago. I GOT MY BELLY PIERCED. This has been something I've wanted to do for years and I literally cannot believe that I actually got it done. My parents are super chill with this kind of stuff and so I didn't need to do any convincing and even my grandma said it looked nice. I have read online that navel piercings are often a sign of femininity for such a long time that even the ancient Egyptians used to pierce their navels. It is also known to balance the solar plexus chakra in ancient Indian philosophy which is crazy because I've really needed a bit of confidence recently. This inspired me to write about divine feminine energy for this week's post.
Kundalini
Divine feminine energy is within each and every one of us, no matter what our gender or biological sex is. Another name for this energy in Indian philosophy (specifically yoga) is kundalini. The word 'kundalini' literally means coil or spiral. The divine feminine can be called kundalini because the energy is known to be coiled up at the base of our spine. This energy can be 'uncoiled' through a series of yoga movements and meditations in order for the energy to flow through our body. Kundalini is often symbolised as a serpent as the qualities of a serpent reflect those of when the kundalini is awakened. This includes: transformation, rebirth and healing of the old form (mind, body and/or spirit). As mentioned before, kundalini energy resides at the base of your spine, within the root chakra. When we do certain asanas and pranayamas, this energy flows all the way to our crown chakra. If you want to read more about chakras, click here.
Benefits of Kundalini Practices
I don't think I'm knowledgeable or qualified enough to write about how to awaken your kundalini energy as there are some potential dangers to it. I say dangers but it's more like a feeling of being very overwhelmed and this could lead to further issues. A kundalini awakening is like a spiritual awakening and people could experience anxiety, sleep disturbances and shaking. If you have any of these symptoms, please do not rely on this information and go visit a doctor. I am not a professional and anything I say does not replace doctor's advice. After the kundalini awakening, you feel a deep sense of purpose and a heightened sense of intuition. It kind of reminds me of the order of the tarot deck because you go through bad times (the tower) which causes transformation within you which is usually for the better (death). Anyways, onto some of the benefits:
- increased compassion and empathy
- inspiration
- a clear mind
- a developed sense of self
- a greater purpose for your actions
- improved communication with yourself and others
A kundalini awakening is a type of spiritual awakening. A spiritual awakening is more when you encompass a wider or infinite sense of truth or reality. A kundalini awakening is the awakening of the soul's life which, once aroused, can help heal blockages in the mind or body and allow you to reach illuminated consciousness.
Shakti
Shakti quite literally means strength. In Indian philosophy, this strength is known to be owned by women. The Hindu Goddess, Devi (Lord Shiva's wife), represents the divine feminine, also known as Shakti. Lord Shiva represents the divine masculine which is a destructive energy as he is known to be the 'destructor'. Goddess Devi's divine feminine shakti is a life giving and motherly energy which is the opposite of what Lord Shiva is. I'm sure that a few of you may have heard stories of Goddess Kali or Goddess Durga which involve them destroying evil and seeming almost violent. While being a badass warrior is a huge part of shakti, it also involves creation (obviously to do with the ability to give birth) and a gentle, caring energy. Despite the divine feminine and the divine masculine both being independent and powerful energies, they are both needed and are almost dependent on each other in order to bring harmony and balance into the universe. This is why men and women have always been equally respected and equally as important in Indian traditions. It's a shame that our society nowadays has been tainted with the belief that women are inferior to men.
I hope you all enjoyed this post!! Today I am actually leaving to go to another festival called 'Medicine' which is all about Shamanic healers and ancient Indigenous traditions which I am really looking forward to! I hope you all have a good day and week ahead, love you guys <33
